Delhi Campus of NFSU Set for Major Infrastructure Upgrade
New Delhi, June 19, 2024
The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Central Sector Scheme "National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme" (NFIES) with a substantial allocation of Rs. 2254.43 crore. This initiative, funded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to significantly bolster forensic capabilities across India from 2024-25 to 2028-29.
A key focus of NFIES is the enhancement of infrastructure at the Delhi Campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). This upgrade is crucial to meet the escalating demands on forensic services due to stringent new criminal laws mandating forensic investigations for serious offenses.
Strategic Enhancements at NFSU Delhi Campus
- State-of-the-Art Laboratory Facilities: Modernizing existing laboratories with advanced equipment to handle intricate forensic analyses.
- Expanded Training Programs: Scaling up educational capacities to train a larger number of forensic professionals, addressing the national shortage of skilled manpower.
- Research and Development Advancements: Strengthening R&D capabilities to stay ahead of evolving crime techniques and technologies.
- Infrastructure Development: Constructing new facilities and upgrading existing ones to accommodate a growing student and faculty body.
Impact on Justice System
The enhancements at the NFSU Delhi Campus are part of a broader strategy to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal justice system through prompt and scientific examination of evidence. By fortifying infrastructure, the government aims to reduce case backlogs and elevate the efficacy of forensic investigations, ultimately contributing to a higher conviction rate.
NFIES underscores the government's commitment to establishing a robust forensic infrastructure that supports efficient justice administration. The upgraded facilities at NFSU Delhi are poised to play a pivotal role in achieving these objectives, ensuring that forensic science remains pivotal in criminal investigations across India.
