About the Speaker
Marco Pot is a distinguished figure in the field of underwater forensics, with a wealth of experience and expertise. Graduating in economics from the University of Amsterdam in 1993, and later in environmental sciences from the University of Wageningen in 1995, Marco's journey into the realm of forensic diving began after his service at the Dutch Royal Navy and Army. His extensive experience as a dive instructor and commander has equipped him with invaluable insights into underwater crime scenes and forensic research.
Achievements and Contributions
- Forensic Diving & Research Academy: Marco Pot is the driving force behind the Forensic Diving & Research Academy in the Netherlands. The academy focuses on raising awareness about aquatic crimes, conducting scientific research, and providing courses in forensic diving.
- Innovative Courses: Marco developed the diver course 'Underwater Crime Scene Investigator Diver', aimed at training divers to effectively handle underwater crime scenes. These courses have attracted participants from various corners of the globe, including naval personnel from Sri Lanka and Montenegro's bomb disposal group.
- Research Endeavors: Currently pursuing his Ph.D. in underwater body decomposition at the University of Maastricht, Marco is dedicated to advancing the understanding of post-mortem submersion intervals for infants and juveniles deliberately placed in water.
- Environmental Conservation: Marco is also the founder of the Underwater park Twiske, a facility that not only allows scuba divers to explore the underwater world but also serves as a platform for educating future leaders on sustainability and marine conservation.
