The inaugural session of the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS) might begin in July
The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS) is set to commence its first session in July 2023, offering graduate and postgraduate degree and diploma courses. The institute will introduce a unique concept of three verticals: crime scene management, crime lab analysis, and translating forensic expert opinion into credible legal evidence and its interpretation before the court. This approach is aimed at preparing a pool of forensic experts for the police and public sector organisations, and the institute will offer honours degrees in four years and postgraduate degrees in five years.
According to UP police additional director general GK Goswami, who has been appointed as the first director of UPSIFS, this institute is the first of its kind to introduce the third vertical, which is not available on the global map. Five different courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level will be offered at the institute, and admission can be obtained through an entrance test after completing 10+2.

The institute is affiliated with the National Forensic Science University, Gandhi Nagar, an institution of national importance. The moot court facility in this institute shall be unique to train and empower the budding forensic professionals to interact with lawyers and equip them professionally to withstand firmly during deposition of testimony and facing cross-examination during court proceedings. The institute's courses are designed to ensure maximum employability, and the UP government is committed to bringing the best education in the field of forensics.
