The central government recently informed the Parliament that it had approved a plan under which help would be given to states and the Union Territories (UTs) in developing top-notch forensic science facilities with cutting-edge machinery and equipment, including cyber-forensics (/topic/cyber- forensics).

The Ministry of Home Affairs claims that the action is intended to "modernise the forensic capacities" of India in light of the growing awareness of scammers who are capable of infiltrating various apps, from Facebook and Messenger to OLX, with the sole purpose of defrauding the trusting users of their money.

Ajay Kumar Mishra, the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, informedn the Lok Sabha in a written reply that "the government has approved a scheme for modernization of Forensic Capacities, which, among other things, will provide, assistance to states and UTs to develop high-quality forensic science facilities with modern machinery and equipment, including cyber-forensics (/topic/cyber-forensics)".
According to the minister, the states and UTs have received financial support from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the "Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC)" scheme for the development of their ability.
