  • Delinquency is a kind of abnormality when an individual deviates from the course of normal social life. His/her behaviour is called delinquency.
  • It is one of the most important and serious problem of the society.
  • It is almost an outcome of rapid organisation and industrialisation of modern time.
  • A large number of children moving from rural area to cities or living in slum areas in the cities are found to be highly vulnerable to this process.
  • This has almost became a universal problem in most of the industrialised countries.

  • Wandering on streets, railway stations etc.
  • Bad Company 
  • Peer Pressure
  • Love of Adventure

Answer: Juvenile delinquent are those offenders who are normally under 18 year of age.
A juvenile delinquent is a young person committing crime.

Reasons of Delinquency may include:

  • Running away from home without permission of parents 
  • Use of Vulgar Language 
  • Visiting Gambling centres
  • Committing sexual offences 
  • Shoplifting 
  • Stealing 

Factors of Juvenile Delinquency:

Social Factor:

  • Broken Homes
  • Poverty 
  • Begging 
  • School dissatisfaction 
  • Film and Pornography

Personality Factor:

  • Mental deficiency in delinquent: It has been observed that a good number of delinquent are mentally deficient 
  • Emotional Problem of individuals: Mental trouble and emotional mal adjustment are strong factors in Delinquency.
  • Delinquent are not born but they become so due to social circumstances and personal deficiencies.

Preventive Measures of Juvenile Delinquency:

In order to Prevent Juvenile Delinquency following measures can be adopted:
  • Creating team at Government as well as Private level for the prevention.
  • Giving proper training to the members and staff of all organisations concerned with delinquency control.
  • Educate to the families to make them realise the important of giving proper attention to the needs of their young children 
  • Establishing child guidance, clinics or give appropriate treatment to the mail adjusted children.
  • Improving the social environment, slum areas, busy market places etc.
