5 Stages of Body Decay | Forensic Medicine
1. Fresh Stage:
- Starts immediate after death
- Body Temperature Starts to decrease
2. Bloating Stage:
- Starts after 3-5 days of Death
- Gases formation takes Place
- Maggots begin to hatch
3. Active Decay:
- Starts after 8-10 days of Death
- Body materials along with liquid is released to surrounding
- Insects starts to feeding on corpse
- This stage ends when maggot leaves the body.
4. Advance Decay:
- Starts after 25 to 50 days of death
- Maggots and other insects complete the breaking down of soft tissue, skin, hair, muscles etc.
- Bone exposed to environment
5. Dry Remain Stage:
- Starts after 50 days of Death
- Corpse becomes skeleton
- This is the Last stage when all byproducts of decomposition have dried up.
