Procrastination and how to overcome it | Budding Forensic Expert

What is Procrastination?
  • Procrastination is the process of delaying or postponing any task.

  • It is the Psychological behavior that allows a person to postpone or delay a certain activity or task.

  • Procrastination actually is a Source of great stress and anxiety for many people.

  • Time management is not directly related to procrastination.

  • The root of procrastination for most people isn't laziness, it's anxiety.

  • Some people fear what might happen if a task isn't done perfectly.

  • Others are afraid that they'll never be able to finish - so why start?

How to Overcome Procrastination?

  1. Do the Task for Just a few Minutes:

Use the Zierganick effect - once you start something your brain remains alert until you finish it.

  1. Do the Hard Tasks First:

Doing the hard tasks while your brain is still fresh means you are less likely to give up on them or procrastinate.

  1. Believe in Your Ability:

You can do it, just implement the skills and strategies you have learnt to self-regulate.

  1. Be aware of your distractions:

Have a think about what it is that's distracting you and taking time away from your tasks, is it a specific app, the environment you're working in, or having one too many tea and biscuit breaks? Do what you can do to minimize these distractions!

  1. Set yourself Short Deadlines:

Impending deadlines get you going. So go ahead and set yourself short deadlines.

  1. Take regular breaks:

It's important to take time away from whatever you're working on and let yourself have some time doing the things that you enjoy, whether it's 15 minutes on your phone every two hours of work completed or chatting to friends.
